There's always one more project...

So tonight Mom and Dad are flying in from Idaho. This marks the end of a long week of preparations. I am not one for letting many people over to my house, let alone stay in it for fear they will see firsthand my lack of tidying. So I have been worried about just getting the house clean before the arrival of the parents. Ammon however, decided Friday night to go look at flooring at the Home Depot. We were up until after 4 am just doing the first room. So while we were at it, we ended up flooring the sitting and family rooms and we painted the family room too. It turned out beautifully, but we were quite sleep deprived this past weekend. So then yesterday, I asked if we could buy a utility table to give me some temporary counter space (kitchen still not done) so I could cook easier. Well, he saw the table was $40 and said, "I can make you a counter top for less than that." And so he went out at 7:00 and got the supplies and made a huge and very sturdy workspace for me. Now it looks more like a workbench from a garage than a counter top since it is made of plywood, but the extra space is wonderful! There's always more to be done but I guess we should have guests more often as we've done more in 5 days than we would usuallly get done in 5 months.

We're still hanging in there

Ryan went to the gastroenterologist on Monday. They are testing him for celiac disease which is basically inability to tolerate gluten. They also did a sweat test today. That is checking his pancreas. His sugars are fine, but I guess the pancreas aids in the general digestion of food too and if it's not doing that, then that may explain his diahrrea. We don't think they will find anything wrong though as we are seeing some improvement since his infection cleared and he's had some time off medicine. Hopefully the rest will fall into place soon.

Now all these doctor visits have done nothing to slow our little toddler down. He is keeping up with Aidan no problem. He even makes machine gun noises as they run through the house "shooting bad guys." He also tells knock-knock jokes. They make no sense, but he imitates Aidan and it's really cute. He is in nursery now which of course he loves. He does all the hand motions to "Book of Mormon Stories," "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree," "Little Bunny Foo-Foo," "Do as I'm Doing," and "The wheels on the Bus." Now the only words he actually says are "foo-foo," and "town" but that just makes it cuter.

Aidan was evaluated for preschool last week. We've been told he has "issues" and "problems" so we went in to see what was up. His attention span is slightly lower than most kids his age but his intelligence is very high and his motor skills are excellent. So in other words, they'd like his attention span to improve before school, but his other scores were too high to get help from the district preschool program. We're trying a comprehensive approach to getting him to understand that he controls his attention. He is too young to medicate and even if we did, the psychologist said they would just have to keep upping the dose and slowing him way down. So we're trying the suggestions they gave us to see if by next year Aidan is a little more cooperative in a structured environment. So far it is working pretty well. He has a star chart and he loves it. When Ryan acts up in public Aidan chastises him by saying, "Ryan, that was bad. You gonna lose a star!" Then he says, "And I'm gonna earn a star because I was good and Ryan was bad." He really likes it now that Ryan is approaching 2 and acting like it.

Ammon has been wonderful around the house this week. I really appreciate all the paint scraping, yardwork, laundry folding, and vacuuming he's done. I couldn't have kept it together without you, honey. :)

Well, that's all for now folks. Hope to hear from you all soon.
